Hotel Pentelikon

The Pentelikon harmoniously combines a modern concept with the glamour of an almost legendary past. It retains the opulence of the Belle Epoque and the lively atmosphere of the period between the two world wars, but it also projects modern aesthetics. Construction of the hotel began in 1924. In those days Kifissia was the most aristocratic country retreat for Athenians and distinguished Greeks residing abroad who had built their mansions and castles there. The hotel opened its doors in 1927 and its luxury caused a sensation. Right away the Pentelikon assumed its place as a hotel for VIP guests that included leading political figures such as Eleftherios Venizelos as well as intellectuals. Cabinet meetings often took place in its salons where the government also hosted receptions for official guests and held other events. During the war the Pentelikon suffered major damage and was looted. It reopened its doors in 1948 but without its former glory, while all around everything was changing. But the magic moment arrived in 1984 when ownership of the Pentelikon passed to people who dreamed of giving it back its former grandeur and succeded. The Pentelikon was renovated from its foundations in order to be transformed into a superlative 5 star hotel, far from the noise of the city and amid lush vegetation. Its historic grandeur returned while every modern convenience was also added. Its interior and exterior areas were reconstructed while retaining important architectural features which were its hallmarks:the turrets and gurrets, the arches and columns, the art deco entrance, the iron railings of the balconies, its magnificent interior staircase. Today the Pentelikon welcomes its guests in 43 rooms, 11 suites, restaurants, bars, salons, conference rooms and in its cool gardens with the swimming-pool, always offering services of the highest standards
